Veneers

Veneers are a type of dental treatment that can dramatically improve the look of your teeth, profile, and smile. If you have discoloured, chipped, or missing teeth, veneers might be a good option for you.

Veneers are thin pieces of tough, tooth coloured porcelain that are created in a dental laboratory. They are bonded onto the surface of the teeth to create an attractive, seamless appearance. The right veneers are always natural-looking, excellent colour, and suited to your own mouth. Furthermore, you may have one tooth covered or the complete set depending on your needs.

Veneers are made to correct a number of dental issues, including cracks, discolouration, misalignment and gaps in between teeth.

Veneers show impressive durability and can last for many years. As with most restorations, they are not permanent and may someday require replacement.

Veneers are perfect if you:

  • Suffer from gaps – the size and shape of the veneer can be designed to cover your teeth, filling in multiple gaps.
  • Stained or discoloured teeth – there are many reasons why teeth can change colour and this can have a bearing on a person’s confidence. Veneers offer the opportunity to instantly improve tooth colour.
  • Alter the shape of teeth – teeth can be naturally too small or crooked, veneers offer a solution to straighten and lengthen natural teeth.
  • Chipped teeth – patients that have chipped or worn teeth due to grinding.
  • Improve alignment – people who want straight teeth without orthodontics.

FAQs

There is no higher or lower prevalence of tooth decay with veneers as long as they receive appropriate care

Because a very thin layer of tooth enamel must be removed to accommodate the thickness of the veneer, the process isn’t considered reversible.

After your teeth are prepared, your dentist will make impressions of them and send them to the laboratory where your veneers will be created. Your new veneers should take approximately one to two weeks to complete. In the meantime, your dentist will place temporary veneers over your teeth to protect your smile.

You should brush and floss your veneers just as you would your natural teeth after they’ve been placed. Brushing twice a day and using the proper dental care products are essential. You should avoid or limit foods and beverages that might cause stains in order to prevent staining.
